Fly Fishing
West Branch of the Penobscot
Fly fishing is most renowned as a method for catching trout and salmon, but it is also used for a wide variety of fish species.
The fly fishers of the United States are thought to be the first anglers to use artificial lures for bass fishing. Once they realized how effective the method was at catching trout and salmon, they began to adapt the patterns to make specific bass flies. These flies are still in use today.
The West Branch is located at the base of Mt Katadahin one and half hours north of Bangor, and about 15 min. from Millinocket in the heart of one the most beautiful places in Maine. The West Branch holds some of the largest wild-land-lock salmon in Maine. It is probably the best dry fly fishing Maine has to offer from early May to late September. We float with canoes or you can stop wading it. Personally, I like using 5 and 6-weight rods.

East Outlet Kennebec River. Moosehead Lake, Greenville
Locals contend that the river in the Upper Kennebec Valley is one of the best wild trout fisheries in the
eastern United States. Trout are not stocked above Salon they are all native. The cold tailwater below Wyman Dam provides fishing during the hottest parts of the summer. The River contains a good population of landlocked salmon, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. The rainbow trout probably average around twelve to fifteen inches. In fact, one part of the river is called Rainbow Alley due to the number of fish caught.
